A few days ago, an Iraqi newspaper published a long list of political figures and celebrities accused of having received free Iraqi crude oil on the orders of Mr. Saddam Hussain. The list for Lebanon alone has a market value of nearly one billion dollars and points to close relatives of President Emile Lahoud. Only one of the politicians named issued a denial. The media maintained a strict blackout which can only lend credibility to the Baghdad report.

Now this is not an exclusive list from Iraq. The Iraqi government has been known to meddle in Lebanese affairs from the days of the monarchy. Therefore we call for a full and complete list of Iraqi bribes and subsidies secretly delivered to Lebanon, Lebanese politicians and media, to be promptly prepared and published.

Iraq has not been the only one. Among the most notorious of our Arab neighbors in promoting Lebanese corruption, are Libya, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Israel had a hand, too. All the records and information in the possession of these countries should also be published. The Lebanese and other nations are entitled to know. Those Lebanese politicians and persons of the media who have habitually received bribes from foreign governments to mislead and confuse the people of Lebanon must be brought to justice.
